Kittie: Funeral for yesterday
11/02/07 || Lord K Philipson
At one point in my life I actually thought Kittie could, maybe, be a decent band. I have absolutely no idea what I based this on, but I did… I bought their first album, listened to it a few times and then stored it away, never to be brought into daylight again. There were some quite good moments on there but in its entirety it just didn’t grab me by the balls, as they literally wish they could. Fuck knows they love the balls. I think they released one or 2 albums after that debut, albums I never cared about nor heard more than for a few seconds. Not only were the chicks ugly as a fucken army of cracked up Whitney Houston’s, so was the music.
So, what’s the deal nowadays then?
It’s not as fucken bad as I remember them to be. Oh no, it’s not particularly good by a long stretch, but the world’s definitely full of worse bands. At times I nod my head to the sweet vocal harmonies (which is basically the reason I put myself through this), just to shake the very same head in anger over the fantastically poor riffs and arrangements at times.
I still like the cunt’s clean singing. She’s got a nice voice, fo’sure. I don’t care much about her “metal” voice.
I don’t know if Kittie’s aiming for a more mature market with the music of 2007, but most of the semi-aggression I remember they had is pretty much gone (sure, some parts are still kinda heavy. For a chick band). Now it’s feels like a little more pop-oriented bullshit entered the picture and I think this costume actually fits Kittie better than their “look, we are chicks and can play metal as great as guys can” (which they ofcourse can’t) approach I remember them by. Maybe they sound exactly like they did before, it’s not like I’m checking. It just feels more mainstream. After all, they are girls, girls can’t play real metal.
Cut down on the metal and concentrate on flashing your tits and create neat clean vocal passages. That’s what everyone wants anyways. I know, we men are such pigs.
Kittie is exactly what their moniker says.
4 plates of milk, that I pissed in, out of 10.
